New president of the International Transport Forum
The Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) happened Last month in Germany. The event, held since 2008, is the premier global transport policy event.
This conference focus on strategic and topical issues across all transport modes. This year’s theme was “Green and Inclusive Transport”. The theme aims to show how important the low-carbon transportation is to the transition to a green growth economy. It was also discussed how to adapt all types of transport, in order to be more inclusive and provide access for everyone.
During the Summit, ministers presented the ITF Transport Awards in three categories: The ITF Transport Achievement Award for excellence in transport provision, the Promising Innovation in Transport Award, and the Transport Researcher of the Year Award.
This year, a Mexican was designated to assume the presidency of the Forum, which is a great recognition to the country that becomes the first Latin American country to assume this function. This recognition was achieved due to the remarkable development of its logistics system and investments in infrastructure that has been realized over the years.
The secretary of Communications and Transport, Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, will head the Council of Ministers at the International Transport Forum in Germany for the Summit in 2017 said that: “global logistics center is a very important thing, which is what guides all our activity in building infrastructure“, and highlighted that “we have to definitely transportation factor a friendlier to the environment“.
Esparza believes that the recognition is a result of all investment to improve the logistics and transport sector in Mexico.
The Mexican will be responsible for the new post of president until 2017.
