3 emerging technologies reshaping the logistics industry

Technology has been surrounding us everywhere, and in the logistics industry, this is no different. Every day a new technology is developed to make transportation operations more simple and effective and technology is enabling much smarter and simpler supply chain management.

On today’s post, we will talk about three emerging technologies that have been reshaping the logistics field, and explain a little about the use of each one of them. Check it out!

1. Cloud Integration

This concept consists of integrating cloud-based technologies into logistics to make some operations easier, such as digitally tracking a product throughout each stage of its transportation process. The traditional supply chain management systems are seen as rudimentary, transactional and lack of real-time accuracy. This is why cloud integration is seen as a revolution for logistics and promises to reduce the frequency of lost products, synchronize shipment components and update inventory records in near real-time. Besides all of these advantages, this system is also universally accessible, and anyone in the supply chain can virtually have access to the date it provides, from anywhere in the world.

2. IOT Enhancements

IOT, also known as Internet of Things, is a term used to define multiple technologies that are connected to each other to increase the efficiency of the supply chain manufacturing process, making it possible to integrate the process involved in the overall management of a supply chain. Specifically, IOT communicates with Bluetooth, RFIDs and cloud technologies to quickly organize, monitor and route products to meet the growing demand of customers and providers.

3. RFID Technologies

RFID, also known as Radio Frequency Identification, are technologies that have revolutionized the supply chain sector, ensuring the right goods are at the right place at the right time. These technologies are able to do a lot of different things, such as preventing machines breakdowns, ensuring temperature-sensitive shipments and measure the time taken for each step of the production and transportation cycle. With RFID technologies, shipments can be scanned, counted and registered in an organization’s system simultaneously, saving time and costs on human labor.
